Dense, old bamboo probably harvested in early Showa or earlier.
There are two sets of hanko on this instrument. One being that of the original maker, Ginshu and the other being unidentifiable but that of the repairer.
The nakasugi rings are inlayed mother of pearl in urushi. This instrument suffered some cracks at some point, but the cracks have not migrated since their initial repair. The immaculate bore remains completely intact.
This is one of the most playable shakuhachi that I have encountered with superb dynamic range. Its timbral qualities are even throughout with fullness and warmth and it plays very easily well into the third ocatave. It will handle whatever air the player can push into it and fall to a whisper when asked.
