3.1 jinashi (consignment)
39mm O.D. / 22mm I.D.
Length: 950 mm
Weight: 625 gms
Key: F 440hz
Price: 25,000 yen
Maker: unknown
Details: Made from a beautifully curving piece of root end madake, this chokan has surprisingly good pitch and balance except
for a slightly weak otsu ro.
As seems to be the case with many longer chokan made in Japan, the maker decided to drill offset holes on both hands.
The lower (right-hand) holes must be played with a piper's clutch grip while the upper (left-hand) could either be played
with the same type of grip or with finger pads, depending on the player's hand size.
Holes are unconventionally place with respect to fushi.
This chokan suits meditative playing, but can be played quickly.
This chokan was previously bought by John Meade. Due to physical handicap, the instrument has proven to long to manage and a resale is necessary.
